Vaisala, Kempower and Varjo at Cirit hosted AWS Meetup Helsinki

In collaboration with the AWS User Group Finland, we organised an AWS meetup in Helsinki on the 13th of September 2022. We were happy to host a full house of AWS professionals and are grateful to our great speakers for interesting presentations.

First, Juha Varkki , Kempower’s Lead Architect talked about the importance of data in IoT and EV charging. Kempower has developed a serverless platform to enable effective data gathering and management. Interestingly, they use machine learning to estimate charging times depending on car model and car’s fingerprint. They’ve also been able to uncover and solve hardware design challenges based on the gathered data.

Our second presenter was Dipesh Yadav, Lead Software Engineer from Vaisala. He talked about how they use DDD (domain driven design) to design microservices. Practical examples of DDD elaborated the concept of domain driven design and gave the audience a more profound understanding what it actually means. DDD enables building the software based on actual domain and business terms which makes it easier for business owners and developer to communicate effectively.

Final presentation was Varjo’s Head of Engineering, Mikolas Hämäläinen. Varjo is the most advanced VR and Mixed Reality headset manufacturer in the world and their approach to utilising cloud to stream high-fidelity VR/XR content is groundbreaking. They’ve had to develop multiple solutions by themselves all the way from the protocol level to be able to reach the performance requirements necessary to provide a great user experience. They’ve also implemented advanced security features to all levels of data transfer and handling.
