In short, the Internet of Things (IoT) refers to physical devices connected to Internet. These devices come in many forms like smartwatches, rings, cars or water bottles.

AWS provides a set of services for the IoT domain that enable companies to manage their IoT devices and securely connect them to the cloud.

What makes AWS different from other platform providers is the depth and scale of the services they offer. End-to-end selection of tools enable fast prototyping but still offers a firm baseline and tools for world class scaling where it is needed. This is why companies like Volkswagen and Traeger have chosen AWS as their platform.

Now, even though the AWS IoT service selection is comprehensive, it does requires some experience and skill to take full advantage of. Designing and implementing an architecture that is secure, scalable and not prohibitively expensive is not always easy.
