Digitale Schiene Deutschland - On Track For the Future
On Track For the Future
Digitale Schiene Deutschland project is laying the foundation for a complete modernisation and digitalisation of the rail infrastructure in Germany. Artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous driving will become the new normal on the rails.
Less traffic, less congestion, less particulate matter – and more people and more goods on the rails: Digital Rail benefits not just passengers, but also the environment, and Germany as a business location. And all this without having to construct a single new track.
Cirit helped to develop a real-time solution to visualise automated train operations data both onboard and online.
Technology is transforming the mobility industry. Automated and self-driving vehicles will enable us to move more efficiently and sustainably in the future. This change is happening not only in cars but also on the rails.
Co-developing the future of rail transport
Leading mobility companies in Germany - Deutsche Bahn, Bosch, Siemens, Here, IBEO together with software, design and visualisation experts Cirit, DKA and Wakeone - are partnering to co-develop the future.
Perception and sensors are a critical part of autonomous operations. State-of-the-art sensors on a S-Bahn Hamburg vehicle provide precise information about the train’s surroundings and exact position. Based on this data, trains can be optimally controlled in the future and, for example, run in shorter intervals, which would bring more capacity to the railways.
Visualising the perception data in a meaningful way required tight collaboration between researchers, engineers, designers and developers. The result was a real-time software solution capable of visualising the perception data both onboard and in the cloud. Train movement and surroundings could be seen at the ITS World Conference site while the actual train was doing its ride. A recording of the streamed data is also available here.
