AWS re:Invent 2022

AWS

AWS organises a yearly re:Invent conference in Las Vegas. Usually, a lot of new stuff is released and this year was no different. You can watch the keynotes here and if you’re just interested in the top announcements, they can be found here.

Amazon’s CEO, Dr. Werner Vogels, once again held a brilliant keynote at the event. It consisted of fundamental ideas and some intriguing glimpses to the future that AWS offers to us today.

AWS re:Invent 2022 - Keynote with Dr. Werner Vogels

Some main topics and ideas covered were

  1. We should observe the nature to find patterns that work.

  2. Nature is asynchronous. In order to create fault-tolerant and scalable solutions, we should build event-driven systems.

  3. Evolving architectures are the key to building systems that maximize value creation in the long term.

  4. AWS aims to build tools that do the “heavy lifting of development” for the developers - and now they launched Amazon CodeCatalyst.

  5. 3D is going to be everywhere. The development of game engines like Unity and Unreal have democratised creating 3D experiences and scalable 3D content pipelines are emerging. You can create 3D content for simulations using AWS Ambit Scenario Designer.

  6. Simulate everything. Simulations are a must to enable leaps forward, e.g. autonomous driving. You can try out AWS SimSpace Weaver to create expansive simulation worlds at increased levels of complexity and scale.

  7. Quantum computing will enable a new level of accuracy in simulation. You can familiarize yourself with the state-of-the-art by watching this interview and trying out AWS Braket.
